Configuring hands-free installation using Kickstart


1. Preparing the installation server (HTTP, NFS, FTP)

#mkdir -p /ks
#cp /root/anaconda-ks.cfg /ks/ks.cfg
#chmod 644 /ks/ks.cfg
A. HTTP
#vi /etc/httpd/conf.d/install.conf
Alias /ks "/ks"

Options Indexes
AllowOverride None
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
#service httpd restart
B. FTP
#cp /ks/ks.cfg /var/ftp/pub/ks.cfg
C. NFS
#vi /etc/exports
/ks      *(ro,no_root_squash)
#service nfs restart
2. Preparing the ks.cfg file
#vi ks.cfg
install
url --url http://192.168.75.11/install           # HTTP
ftp --url ftp://192.168.75.11/pub/install       # FTP
nfs --server=192.168.75.11 --dir=/install   # NFS

3. Installing the CentOS5 client with kickstart
Set BIOS to boot from CD-ROM
Boot from boot.iso or the CentOS5 DVD

boot:linux ks=ftp://192.168.75.11/pub/ks.cfg              # FTP
boot:linux ks=nfs:192.168.75.11:/ks/ks.cfg              # NFS
Note: you can choose one of the three methods to start the installation.
